Royal Academy of Engineering select Wattle for major Website Redevelopment programme

The Academy, a charity that harnesses the power of engineering to build a sustainable society, has selected Wattle for the redevelopment of their corporate website in line with their ambitious 2020-25 strategy.

The Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE) is the UK's national academy of engineering. As a registered charity, the Academy harness the power of engineering to build sustainable society and an inclusive economy that works for everyone. In collaboration with Fellows and partners, the primary aims are to develop skills for the future, drive innovation and build global partnerships.

The Academy’s goal for 2025 is to harness the power of engineering to build a sustainable society and an inclusive economy that works for everyone.

In line with this ambitious 2020-25 strategy, and a refreshed visual identity, the Academy were looking to redevelop their 5-year-old Kentico CMS website. The Academy have rapidly outgrown their existing website with both the variety and volume of their activities. The current website is perceived as static, restrictive, unstructured, content heavy and is not delivering the user experiences expected by the Academy’s key stakeholders, including its Fellows, Awardees, and Partners.

In addition, the RAE operate a wider and more complex website estate comprising multiple websites on Kentico, ASP.NET, WordPress and PHP that need to be consolidated onto one single CMS.

In order to help realise these ambitions Wattle proposed the deployment of the Umbraco CMS element of our seamlessly integrated Membership Experience Platform, MemEx, specifically designed to address the needs of membership and charitable organisations, to meet the Academy's website and member portal requirements.

MemEx will act as a comprehensive baseline functionality framework for the Academy's new website and member portal and, through defined processes of discovery and gap / fit analysis, be configured to the Academy's requirements, integrated with relevant incumbent systems, and deployed into the organisation in a phased manner.

  • Replace the Academy’s current Kentico CMS website and My Account Portal.
  • Seamlessly integrate, in real-time, with the Academy's incumbent Dynamics 365 system which is currently supported by Wattle.
  • Integrate with the Academy's existing Fellow’s Discourse Forum, Sage Pay payment gateway, Flexi-Grant grant management systems, Raiser’s Edge fundraising platform, and Dotdigital marketing automation platform.

To deliver the website redevelopment project Wattle have partnered with the Academy's existing creative partner IE Brand - the brand and digital agency for Charity, Health and Education.

IE Brand will utilise their existing knowledge of the Academy's brand, their user discovery, their UI / UX design expertise, culminating in the delivery of flat file HTML builds that will bring Academy's brand to life on screen, and Wattle will utilise their powerful MemEx platform, business analysis and technical build capabilities to drive the project through functional discovery, back-end build, integration and launch.

We look forward to sharing future updates about projects with the Academy. To learn more about how Wattle can support your membership or charitable organisation, contact our expert team today.
